Metro North Brisbane Medicare Local
The Australian Government is establishing a national network of Medicare Locals as a key component of National Health Reform. Medicare Locals are independent organisations that will coordinate primary health care delivery and tackle local health care needs and service gaps. Medicare Locals will have a key role in driving improvement in primary health care and in ensuring services are better tailored to meet the needs of local communities.
The Metro North Brisbane Medicare Local commenced operation on 1 July 2011 and was established by GPpartners Ltd, the division of general practice located on Brisbane’s north side. On 1 July, GPpartners Ltd transferred its programs, services and staff to the Medicare Local, becoming the first fully functional Medicare Local in Australia.
