The Medicare Local is involved in developing and testing standards and essential elements of the proposed national eHealth system. Telehealth
On 1 July 2011, Medicare Australia introduced telehealth, an initiative that aims to address some of the barriers to accessing medical services for Australians in eligible remote, regional and outer metropolitan areas. Telehealth provides financial incentives to eligible practitioners and aged care services who enable patients to participate in a video consultation called a telehealth consultation with a specialist, consultant physician or consultant psychiatrist.
Secure messaging

- iHealthcare Directory – A directory of health providers in Queensland with and without secure messaging capabilities. Consent info.
Hospital e-health
- eReferrals – Using secure messaging, outpatient departments at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s, Royal Children’s and The Prince Charles Hospitals can receive electronic referrals. Access eReferral templates at Templates & Referral Guidelines
- Enterprise Discharge Summary (EDS) – Royal Brisbane & Women's and the Royal Children's Hospitals can now provide discharge summaries electronically. Registration form.
